Dr Michelle Maloney
Dr Michelle Maloney is an Earth lawyer and advocate for Earth-centred, bioregional and nature based governance. She advises communities, businesses and governments about innovative ecocentric, bioregional and nature based governance strategies.
For more than 30 years, Michelle’s research, writing and collaborative work has demonstrated how we can build governance systems, societies and economies that support and regenerate, rather than destroy, our living world. Her systems change projects and education initiatives connect law, economics, history, science, ethics, education, decolonisation and cross-cultural knowledge.
Michelle’s positions include: Co-Founder and Director of the Australian Earth Laws Alliance (AELA), Director, Future Dreaming; Director, Ecocentrix Training and Advisory, Adjunct Fellow at the UTS Institute for Sustainable Futures, and Adjunct Fellow at the Institute for Ethics, Governance and Law, Griffith University.
Michelle is also Co-Founder of the New Economy Network Australia (NENA) and now manages the NENA ‘Earth Economies’ Hub. Michelle holds a Bachelor of Arts (Political Science and History), and a Bachelor of Laws (Honours) from the Australian National University and a PhD in environmental law and regulation from Griffith University.
Michelle received a National Peace Women’s Award in 2024, for her commitment to environmental and social justice.
